Lesson Planning

Standards
Lesson Planning starts with the Standards. Standards are an approved model or pattern for guidance for what is to be taught in a curriculum. Basic standards are typically goverened by the State Department of Education. Some school districts modify the State Standards and make them more stringent.

Indicators
The standards are used to come up with indicators. Indicators are subset components of a standard, the goals needed to meet the presiding standard. The indicators show specific items, or outcomes, a student must do in order to master the standard.

Objectives
Objectives are statements that specify the learning outcome. Objectives typically relate directly to the standards and indicators. An objective is an overall goal for the lesson.

Goals
Goals are detailed statements that explain what the student should be able to do as a result of the lesson. Goals typically support the objective, which is written with standards and indicators in mind.
